Corporal Joseph Malone, 13th Light Dragoons, with Sergeants John Berryman and John Farrell , 17th Lancers, were awarded the Victoria Cross for devotion to duty during the Light Brigade action at Balaclava, Crimean War, 25 October 1854. The picture shows them struggling desperately to assist a fatally wounded officer back to the British lines.
